Who am I? I am a creative recruiter with AQUENT (formerly Sakson & Taylor). This means I look for extraordinarily talented designers, interaction designers, UX designers, Flash artists, front-end developers, ActionScript devs, information architects, and graphic designers and introduce them to a myriad of fabulous and exciting contract opportunities in the Seattle area. I also work on Project and Program Management roles, so you may see periodic job posts in those realms.
Who did I used to be? According to a quiz I took on Facebook, I was a handmaiden to an evil landlord in the 17th century. In this life, I started out in web development in design in the mid-90s… before anyone really taught you how to do it. I bought an HTML book from Costco, a scanner, and a copy of Photoshop and went to work. Over the next six years, I experienced the rush of the dot com boom working for several start-ups and doing a brief contract stint at Microsoft. Yes, the boom was everything you have heard about and more – company-sponsored boozing, working in your jammies, having ridiculous amounts of money thrown at you for possessing relatively few years of experience.
Then 2001 hit, the good times crept to a halt, and I became a “freelancer” (meaning unemployed) for 18 months. Fast forward four years and creative recruiting called my name.
Why this blog? To talk about the industry. To connect with talent. To see what’s shaking in the design world.
So, if you are creatively inclined and looking for work in the design industry, I’d love to hear from you! Thanks for stopping by and checking out my little corner of cyberspace.
